Rockstar's iconic Grand Theft Auto III turns 10 Saturday, October 22, and the developer is remembering the breakthough game with a little love, sentiment, and a few smartly edited videos. It's a little shocking to think that GTA III happened so long ago -- in fact, it shipped just one month after the September 11 attacks -- and I, for one, have fond memories of it.
Working closely with Rockstar while I wrote and ran the IGNPS2 channel, we cranked out tons of exclusives and story after story on every aspect of GTA III. The game looks a little worse for the wear, but the snappy writing, Godfather moments, and that mixture of insane car chases and societal parody came together to great one of the all-time best franchises in gaming history. It's worth it to step back for a moment, watch this video, and think back on where you were and who you were with when you first started playing GTA III.
